Colours in a corner of the studio

Colours in a corner of the studio

Someone in the shipping department needs a time out to play beads!

It's cold and frosty today, so my latest project has a decidedly wintery feel to it. It's an idea that may or may not work out (watch this space!).

I get asked a lot about where my colours come from, so here is the inspiration behind this first pick of colours. Sometimes things drift together in my studio, and look pretty, so I photograph them for future reference. The cool blues and greens are my favourites.

I also photograph just about everything, so this pile of logs left over after the tree surgeons trimmed a tree (still standing and looking very perky after its hair cut), gave me the dark and light contrasts for the design.

Once I have a palette in mind, I choose the beads, crystals, and accent beads I think might work, then edit them as the design takes shape. It's a given that beads together in a jar, might look very different when they are put together with other beads, so the editing is usually a darker, or lighter shade, or the same colour but with a different finish. One of the best parts of beading is having the time to play and see what happens.
